Incredible!
Last night some friends of ours took Donald and I to the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performance at TPAC. Modern dance has not always been one of my favorite forms of art but the Alvin Ailey company was not like any other I’ve seen before.
It was alive, vibrant, upbeat, fun, and awe inspiring! The performance opened with a video documenting the company’s 50 year history. Though Alvin Ailey left this world in 1989 at the age of 58, the legacy that he left behind will continue to bring wonderful beauty to the stage for generations to come.
The concert concluded with Ailey’s most famous work, Revelations, which tells the story of his Southern Baptist upbringing. Revelations was created by Ailey in 1960 but there was nothing dated or retro about it. Revelations is as beautiful and inspiring as it must have been when it premiered.
I cannot say enough about how enjoyable this performance was. If you ever get a chance to see these wonderfully talented and progressive dancers, you must go!!
